Likewise CBDT, CBIC has also introduced the concept of quoting Document Identification Number ('DIN') on any communication issued by CBIC to taxpayers.
To begin with, DIN would be used for search authorization, summons, arrest memos, inspection notices and letters to be issued w.e.f. 8th November 2019. Such communications without DIN would be treated as invalid.
The format of DIN would be CBIC-YYYY MM ZCDR NNNNNN where ZCDR denotes to Zone, Commissionerate, Division, Range and NNNNNN denotes to six digit alpha-numeric system generated random number. DIN can be verified by recipient in a window VERIFY CBIC-DIN on www.cbic.gov.in.
